- A viewing platform overlooks approximately 1,000 feet of beach. The published route down to the shoreline uses a stairway, so plan for the climb back up.

Shoreline character
Large stones and cobbles dominate the waterline, with very little exposed sand. Treat Peterson as a rugged rock shoreline rather than a sandy beach stop.
What to look for
Look across wet, wave-washed stones for fossil patterns, contrasting color, and texture. Move slowly, choose stable footing, and avoid shifting or climbing on larger rocks.
Make the most of the stop
Peterson is the most rugged of these three stops. Allow time for the stairs and uneven cobble footing; the overlook, pavilion, and playground offer alternatives above the beach.
