Leelanau County shoreline
Every stretch of shoreline changes with the weather. Start with a nearby public beach, look closely, and bring a question or favorite find back to the Trading Post.
These public beaches offer three different starting points around the northern Leelanau Peninsula.
E. Christmas Cove Road near N. Island View Drive
A small township park with about 200 feet of Lake Michigan shoreline, picnic tables, restrooms, and parking. It is a manageable first stop when you want time to slow down and look.
10001 E. Peterson Park Road, Northport
A rugged township beach reached by a stairway below the overlook, with about 1,000 feet of large-stone shoreline, a pavilion, playground, restrooms, and paved parking. Expect cobbles underfoot and very little sand.
End of Cedar Street, Leland
A public Lake Michigan beach with an unpaved parking area and seasonal portable toilets. It is an easy shoreline stop when a day in Leland leaves room for one more walk by the water.
Check posted and local rules before collecting. Michigan's general limit on state-owned land is 25 pounds per person per year, and private land always requires permission. Search after storms rather than during high waves, and leave the shoreline as you found it.
